Apply for an AmeriCorps State Grant

MSA is excited to announce the first of two opportunities to apply to host an AmeriCorps program that will be made available over the next few weeks.

The first opportunity, AmeriCorps State, is available for organizations seeking to host their own AmeriCorps program to address a wide range of community priorities starting in the 2023-2024 program year. Information on how to apply for an AmeriCorps State grant can be found below.

The second opportunity, Public Health AmeriCorps, is targeted to address public health needs in Massachusetts. Organizations interested in applying for Public Health AmeriCorps will need to do so through a targeted Request for Proposals, which MSA anticipates releasing in early September, with responses due in mid-October. The AmeriCorps Agency has posted its application materials here; however, applicants seeking to operate a Public Health AmeriCorps program only in Massachusetts will need to apply through MSA and will need to respond to the forthcoming RFP.

AmeriCorps State Grant

What is an AmeriCorps State grant? AmeriCorps is a federal program overseen by the AmeriCorps Agency. AmeriCorps State grants are awarded to eligible organizations to recruit, train, and manage AmeriCorps members who address unmet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, disaster preparedness, and other critical areas. Members may receive a living allowance during their term of service. Upon successful completion of their service, they also receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award from the National Service Trust.

Program Size

Applicants should understand that AmeriCorps programs in Massachusetts are expected to engage a minimum of 10 full-time members (10 Member Service Years, or MSYs) or the equivalent number of part-time members. Program applications requesting fewer than 10 MSYs will not be reviewed. AmeriCorps programs should be large enough to make a significant difference in communities; therefore, MSA strongly encourages applicants to request a minimum of 15-20 MSYs regardless of whether members serve individually or in teams.

Interested organizations should:

2) Submit an Intent to Apply by Thursday, September 13, 2022 (optional, but strongly encouraged).

3) Submit an online application by 12pm EST on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
