In Massachusetts and in states across the country, an organized criminal ring has been stealing SNAP and cash benefits by essentially making a duplicate EBT card through a mechanism called skimming. To date nearly $1 million in SNAP benefits have been stolen from approximately 2,000 households in Massachusetts. DTA is not able to replace SNAP benefits stolen through skimming.
Help get the word out! Re-pinning EBT cards after each purchase is encouraged in order to keep cards safe. If you or someone you know suspects benefits have been stolen, please report to the fraud unit at DTA: 800-372-8399.
