Walk to the Hill: Jan 25

An update from Community Legal Aid:

The The Equal Justice Coalition's annual lobby day, Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid, is returning to an in-person event at the Massachusetts State House (24 Beacon Street, Boston) on January 25, 2024! Join private attorneys, legal aid lawyers, and law students to knock on legislators’ doors and advocate for civil legal aid funding. The event kicks off at 11am – register online at: https://walktothehill2024.eventbrite.com.

Your advocacy last year had a big impact: the Massachusetts legislature allocated $49 million for civil legal aid in its FY24 budget, through the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation’s (MLAC) line item 0321-1600. This is an accomplishment we should all be proud of. However, while it is important to acknowledge the progress we have made, there is still much work to be done expanding access to justice.

For FY25, MLAC, with the support of the EJC, is requesting $55 million in the Massachusetts state budget to fund additional legal services and address the justice gap. Our advocacy at Walk to the Hill helps make MLAC's request a priority for policymakers. So, make sure to register!
